The Rashtriya Gokul Mission has achieved significant achievements in promoting the development and protection of indigenous bovine breeds through its Nationwide Artificial Insemination Programme. To date, the initiative has covered 6.21 crore animals and done 7.96 crore artificial inseminations, benefiting 4.118 crore farmers across the country.

Promotion of IVF Technology: A Breakthrough in Bovine Reproduction

The Rashtriya Gokul Mission has actively promoted In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technology, yielding remarkable results. As of now, 19124 viable embryos have been produced, leading to 10331 successful transfers and the birth of 1621 healthy calves under the program.

Revolutionizing Cattle Breeding with Sex-Sorted Semen Production

Introducing sex-sorted semen production in the country, the mission aims to achieve up to 90% accuracy in producing female calves. Farmers can avail a subsidy of Rs 750 or 50% of the cost of sorted semen on assured pregnancy, contributing to the selective breeding of high-quality livestock.

DNA-Based Genomic Selection: Pioneering Advances in Animal Genetics

The National Dairy Development Board has developed INDUSCHIP, a groundbreaking tool for the genomic selection of elite animals from indigenous breeds. A notable milestone is the development of BUFFCHIP, the world's first chip for genomic selection of buffaloes, with 8000 buffaloes already genotyped for creating a referral population.

Animal Identification and Traceability: Harnessing Technology for Livestock Management

To enhance livestock management, the mission has identified and registered 53.5 crore animals, including cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, and pigs. Utilizing polyurethane tags with 12-digit UID numbers, this initiative ensures effective traceability and identification.

Progeny Testing and Pedigree Selection: Strengthening Indigenous Breeds

Implementing progeny testing programs for Gir, Shaiwal cattle, and Murrah, Mehsana buffaloes, the mission aims to strengthen indigenous breeds through systematic pedigree selection and breeding practices.

National Digital Livestock Mission: Transforming Livestock Management in the Digital Age

In collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying has launched the National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM). This digital initiative aims to improve animal productivity, control diseases affecting both animals and humans, and ensure the quality of livestock for both domestic and export markets.

Under the Rashtriya Gokul Mission, private entrepreneurs receive a 50% subsidy (up to Rs 2 crore per farm) on the capital cost (excluding land) for establishing breed multiplication farms. The Department has already approved the establishment of 111 such farms, furthering the mission's goal of enhancing the quality and quantity of indigenous breeds.
