4th Edition of Agrex India 2018

Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India, more so in the vast rural areas. It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, natural resource management and biodiversity protection, are essential for holistic rural development. Indian agriculture and allied activities have witnessed a green revolution, a white revolution, a yellow revolution and a blue revolution.

Currently, around 51 per cent of India's total workforce is engaged in agriculture and its allied sectors, like forestry, fisheries, and so on. For most of the 21st century India is expected to remain an agricultural society. One cannot underplay the role of agricultural growth in improving rural incomes and securing India's food and nutritional needs.

Our population is expected to be 1.4 billion by 2020. The increasing population, coupled with growing income will generate increased demand for food grains and non-food grain crops. Therefore, Indian agriculture has to achieve and maintain a consistent and higher growth rate of 4 per cent per annum.

According to FederUnacoma report, India is world's largest tractor market, with sales of 620,000 units in 2014, providing clear proof that India has emerged as new agricultural machinery mega market.

In consonance of the efforts of Indian Government for making India self sufficient in food grain production and increasing farm income, Media Today Group is organizing 4th Agrex India 2018 - National Exhibition on Agriculture, Farm Machinery & Agri Processing Technologies in Pune (Maharashtra), from 23-25 February 2018. The event will pump in more value additions to the existing technology from all over the world.

Initiatives by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India

In recent years much emphasis has been given by the Ministry of Agriculture on commercializing Indian agriculture. Strategies have been planned and schemes have been launched to achieve 4 per cent annual growth rate. These include focus on potential areas, regionally-differentiated strategies, crop diversification, precision farming, and scientific management of natural resources.

The new initiatives in the form of National Food Security Mission and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana launched by the Ministry of Agriculture are aimed at rejuvenating this sector.

Adequate production and distribution of food has become a high priority and global concern. In the fast changing world and increasing competition in a globalized economy, there is need to exploit the available resources to the maximum level and use the best internationally available technologies. This will help in coping with domestic demand for food and also contribute to international exports.

Why Pune?

Agriculture is the mainstay of Maharashtra's Economy. The state is a major producer of food crops as well as cash crops. Main crops include rice, jwar, bajra, wheat, pulses, vegetables, and fruits. The principal cash crops cultivated in the state are cotton, sugarcane, turmeric, and several oil seeds including groundnut, sunflower and soybean. The state has huge areas, under fruit cultivation. The fruits which have added to the treasury of the state are Nagpur oranges, oranges of Bathplug, the Alphonso Mangoes and the grapes of Nashik. The total irrigated area which has been used for crop cultivation is over 33, 500 square kilometer. Large areas of the state have been brought under fruit cultivation.

Maharashtra is an extremely progressive state in terms of adapting modern technologies. Neighbouring states like Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka are major crop producers of India. Substantial export of perishable produces takes place through these states. Pune, our venue, enjoys a locational advantage of being close to Mumbai, where India's biggest perishable cargo complex exists, enabling quick export of these products.

The aim of organising 4th Agrex India 2018 concurrently with 13th International Flora Expo 2018 and 10th International Horti Expo 2018 is to facilitate the diversification of Indian agriculture. Horticulture and Floriculture are an integral part of this process. Pune has some of the biggest floriculture production centres, spread across 100 to 200 kilometres radius. It has become a major hub for international breeders and planting material suppliers and the ultra-modern tissue culture labs of horticulture and floriculture industry. Enjoying these advantages, Pune has been our prime choice for organizing 4th Agrex India 2018.

Agrex India 2018 will be an eye opener for the farmers, growers, wholesalers, importers, exporters and all other stakeholders of every segment of Agriculture and Farm Machinery, Equipment and allied sectors who want to expand and diversify their business and activities. It is a unique opportunity to launch your products & services among thousands of farmers & agro entrepreneurs who will visit this Expo.
