China will cut import tariffs on soybean and some other goods from India and four other Asian nations from July 1, China's Cabinet announced, amidst a looming trade war with the US.

China will reduce tariffs on soybean imported from India, South Korea, Bangladesh, Laos, and Sri Lanka from the current three per cent to zero, official media quoted the decision by State Council, China's Cabinet.

Recently experts advised farmers regarding farming of soybean. This advice is from preparing land for soybean to varieties of soybean. Black soil with good water exit is appropriate for farming of soybean. The slope in the farm should be such that the water exits properly. The soil in the field should neither b e too acidic nor basic. The farm should be tilled properly during summer season (April-May). The sun and the temperature destroy any type of pests and weeds in the soil. When the rain starts the farm should be cultivated for at least 2 to 3 times.

Best quality variety: the selection of soybean variety is done on the basis of climate in the region in which farm is located. Seeds that ripe quickly (90-95 days) should be sown on light land and rain based areas with average rainfall of 600-750 mm. Seeds that take 100-105 days to ripe should be sown on land with loamy soil and an average rainfall of 750-1000 mm. seeds that take longer time to ripe should be sown on heavy land with heavy rainfall of 1250 mm. There should be special care taken that the germination capacity of seed is more than 70% and for a good crop there should be 40 plants per square meter. Suitable variety of certified seed should be chosen.

Seed Rate: Various varieties of seeds according to their size and germination capacity should be used as following:

  • Seeds with small size grain- 70 kg per hector
  • Seeds with medium size grain- 75-80 kg per hector
  • Seeds with big size grain- 90 kg per hector

Time to sow: The right time to sow the seeds is from 20th June to first week of July when there has been 3-4 inches of rainfall. If the seed sowing is delayed the quantity of seed should be 1/4th and distance between each row should be 30 cm. in case of delay seeds that ripe quickly should be used.

Procedure of sowing: Soybean should be sown in rows. The distance between rows should be 45 cm and the seeds should be sown at a depth of 3-5 cm. Seed drill cum fertilizer should be used for sowing the seeds so that the seed and compost can be separated that results in falling of compost first followed by seeds.  Seed and fertilizers should never be used together during sowing the seed.

Seed Treatment: The soybean seed should be treated with carboxin 37.5 percent thirum 37.5 WP 250 gm  per quintal or carbendazim 12 percent mancozeb 63 percent WP 250gm per quintal or thiophanate methyl 45 percent pyraclostrobin 5 percent FS 200 ml per quintal. After that using insecticide, imidacloprid 30.5 percent SC 100 ml per quintal or thiamethoxam 30 percent 30 percent FS 250 ml per quintal will protect the seeds from juice pest for 30 days.

Compost and Fertilizers: Spread well ripe dung compost 4-6 ton per hector in the farm and even the ground. While sowing 60 kg DAP, 20 kg SSP and 30 kg potash nutritious elements should be given. According to soil test the quantity of nutritious elements can be increased or decreased. When the crop is 15 days mature michoriza should be used 4 kg per acre.
