MoU for Improving Market Readiness Capacity of Farmers in Andhra Pradesh

Tanager formerly known as Agribusiness Systems International (ASI), a non-profit firm today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (GCC) for improving market readiness capacity of farmers in the districts of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh. This is part of Tanager’s current project Andhra Pradesh Farmers Market Readiness Program (APFMRP) supported by Walmart Foundation. Tanager formerly known as Agribusiness Systems International (ASI), a non-profit firm today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Girijan Cooperative Corporation Limited (GCC) for improving market readiness capacity of farmers in the districts of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh. This is part of Tanager’s current project Andhra Pradesh Farmers Market Readiness Program (APFMRP) supported by Walmart Foundation. Mr. Amit Kumar Singh, Country Representative, Tanager, India and Mr. T. Babu Rao Naidu, IAS, IAS Vice-chairman and Managing Director, GCC signed the MoU for a period of 3 years.

The main objective of the MoU is to strengthen economic development of tribal farmers in Andhra Pradesh by providing support to them in procurement and marketing of agricultural produce and minor forest produce, thereby making the farmers market ready. The understanding between both the organizations further aims at joining forces, skills, knowledge, expertise infrastructure, material, methods, equipment’s resources from time to time to improve the market readiness capacity by providing backward and forward linkages of the selected FPOs in the districts of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari of Andhra Pradesh.

Talking about the MoU, Mr. Amit Kumar Singh, Country Representative, Tanager India said, “Tanager India is happy to enter the MoU with Girijan Cooperative Corporation as it showcases the organization's confidence and trust in us for helping the tribal farmers of Andhra Pradesh. This initiative will give us an opportunity to showcase our expertise of agriculture-related market linkages and helping smallholder producers to generate more income. Andhra Pradesh Farmer Market Readiness Program (APFMRP) is a two-year project of Tanager

formerly Agribusiness Systems International supported by Walmart Foundation which commenced in December 2018 and is targeting 15000 farmers, 5000 women farmers, and 9 FPOs. The goal of the project is to improve farmer incomes by providing farmers with the knowledge, resources, and services for getting market ready and reach diverse markets for their produce. The goal will be accomplished by building the capacity of farmer producer organizations (FPOs) and supply chain actors to address supply and demand constraints in targeted value chains. Tanager has also partnered with Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) and is working with existing FPOs formed under Andhra Pradesh Rural Inclusive Growth Programme(APRIGP).

Tanager also works with ITDA in the tribal areas covering districts of East Godavari, West Godavari, Anantapur and Vishakhapatnam for farmers growing Cashew, Maize, Peanut, Coffee, and Vegetables.
