    On Sunday evening, a powerful whirlwind accompanied by rain destroyed 10 acres of sugarcane farms close to Thalavadi in Erode district. Farm owners urged the local authorities to investigate the damaged crops as soon as possible and to compensate them. The rain and strong winds destroyed all sugarcane crops, that would have been harvested for crushing in sugar mills in a few weeks.
