A unique initiative is taken up by APEDA and Basmati Export Development Foundation (BEDF) to sensitize and train the farmers growing Basmati Rice.

As a part of the initiative, BEDF in association with Rice Exporters Association of Uttar Pradesh has launched an awareness campaign to encourage farmers for growing high quality Basmati rice at Jahangirpur under Gautambudh Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh.

Major highlights of the campaign:

  • Through this drive, the farmers were informed that the basmati rice cultivation is an Indian tradition and it’s a collective responsibility to maintain this tradition as there is huge demand for basmati rice in the global market.

  • The farmers were requested to register themselves on Basmati.net through State Agriculture Department.

  • More than 125 farmers of Western Uttar Pradesh participated in the awareness campaign

  • They were advised on how to raise superior quality of basmati that will help to increase their income.

APEDA in association with BEDF has been assisting the State Governments in promotion of basmati rice cultivation. It has also suggested usage of certified seeds to maintain the quality of the produce along with the scientific use of chemical fertilizers that would ensure the quality production of basmati Rice. This would boost the basmati rice exports from the country.

APEDA has also been promoting the export of basmati rice through the collaborations with various stakeholders in the value chains.

Rice Export promotion Forum (REPF):

Rice Export promotion Forum was set up by the government to provide stimulus to the rice exports. REPF will take collaborative steps to identify, document particulars and reach out to the stakeholders across the entire production/ supply chain of export of rice in order to enhance the exports remarkably to the global market. It will also monitor, identify and anticipate the developments related to production and exports and put forward various necessary policy measures.

About Basmati.net:

Basmati.net is aimed to provide a common platform to all stakeholders in supply chain to enter details of activities undertaken as a part of basmati value chain. This mechanism can ensure that the basmati rice reaches to the consumers in India or abroad.
