Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman would present the budget for FY2021-22 on 1st February. Preparations for the same has already started and people are eagerly waiting for the announcements.

Keeping in mind the ongoing Kisan Andolan, the entire focus of the Modi Government is on the farming community. Sources say that the Centre can make some big announcements in the interest of farmers in the upcoming budget amid this ongoing protest at Delhi border.

Modi Government may increase the PM Kisan Amount

The government may also increase the current annual installment of Rs 6000 under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, popularly known as PM Kisan. Farmers have asked the Government to increase the annual installment stating that this amount is inadequate for agricultural purposes.

It must be noted that the budget estimate for FY2019-20 was around Rs 1.51 lakh crore, which was increased to about Rs 1.54 lakh crore in FY2020-21. Besides this, the allocation for rural development has also been hiked to Rs 1.44 lakh crore in 2020-21 in comparison to about Rs 1.40 lakh crore in 2019-20.

Under Pradhan Mantri Agricultural Irrigation Scheme, the amount has been increased from Rs. 9682 crores in 2019-20 to Rs 11,127 crore in 2020-21.

Rs 6000 insufficient to meet expenses

Farmers say that Rs. 6000 per year received under the PM-Kisan yojana is not sufficient. This means farmers get Rs. 500 per month. It costs around Rs. 3 to 3.5 thousand to grow a paddy crop in one acre of land. Likewise, about Rs. 2-2.5 thousand is spent in growing wheat. Hence, for growers with more land, Rs. 6000 is not enough.

About PM Kisan Scheme

PM Kisan Yojana was launched on 1 December 2018. Under this yojana, the government provides Rs 6000 per year to the farmers in three equal installments of Rs. 2000 each. Farmers get PM Kisan money directly in their bank account. As per the information available on PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi website, there are more than 11 crore beneficiaries of this scheme.
