Covid-19 cases are on a constant rise and, this time, rural areas are also affected. Looking at the spiralling high cases, Campco (Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Ltd.) has suspended its operations from May 11 for five days. This is to break the chain of Covid-19 infection spread.

According to the President of Campco, Kishore Kumar, the cooperative had continued to serve farmers during the pandemic and the lockdowns announced by the Governments of Kerala and Karnataka. However, with the unprecedented rise in the Covid-related casualties and in order to support the Government’s initiative to break the Covid chain, Campco has decided to suspend its operations from May 11 to May 15.

The President stated that Campco values the safety and health of its staff on priority basis.

Campco staff requested to cooperate with the temporary suspension of operations

The Managing Director of Campco, Krishna Kuma, has requested the members to take note of the temporary suspension of the cooperative’s operations and has sought their cooperation in this endeavour of breaking the chain.

He has asked the grower members to not panic during this time. Also, they should not heed to rumors and neither should spread them. The company will review the situation on May 15.

He further added that the arrivals are restricted for the last few days. No panic selling among the growers was seen. This is also one of the reasons for the cooperative to take the decision.

Campco’s commitment

Campco has stated that it will continue to strive to offer a stable market for farmers’ produce. Krishna Kumar said that the survey report of consumer market connotes unabated demand of arecanut in the consuming regions.

Campco assures that it will endeavour in providing further services and benefits to its members and, at the same time, maintaining a stable rate for arecanut.
