Efforts to Control and Prevent Classical Swine Fever (CSF)

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR) visited the ICAR-National Research Centre on Pig, Rani in Guwahati.  Dr. Mohapatra stressed on the need for digitalization of data pertinent to indigenous breeds and developed varieties and strengthening the breeding strategies in farmer’s field. He emphasised on the use the molecular means for selection process. Dr Mohapatra urged to control and prevent the Classical Swine Fever (CSF) and Porcine Respiratory & Reproductive Syndrome (PRRS).

The Director General adjured the Institute for taking the lead role towards the establishment of CSF/PRRS vaccine production laboratories for fulfilling the demand of stakeholders, characterization and whole genome sequencing of common infectious agents in pigs. He also opined for increasing the database and stock of different viruses available with the Institute labs, conserving the indigenous pig germplasm and strengthening the association with the BIS, FSSAI and APEDA.
