Farm Exports Immerse 10.6 percent in First Quarter of 2019

The farm exports have immersed by 10.61% in value terms of Rs 28,910 crore in the first quarter of 2019. Last year India had exported various agricultural commodities of Rs 32,341 crore in the same period. APEDA data signify that the nodal agency for promotion of agri exports, shipments of basmati rice from India have shown a slight drop from 1.17 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2018-19 to 1.15 million tonnes during the same period in this fiscal. Agriculture official said, “The major drop in exports is in non-basmati rice and pulses which have gone down by around 50%. As against 2.1 million tonnes exports of non-basmati rice in 2018-19, Indian exported 1.2 million tonnes this year. Similarly, the exports of pulses have dipped drastically from 1.01 lakh tonnes in 2018-19 to 45,344 tonnes this year”.

Over last year exports of fruits, processed vegetables and fruits, juices and meat have shown growth.

Official also said that “The focus is on doubling of farmer’s income by 2022. Farm exports would be major contributor to this cause. We have a well laid down agri export policy. We have asked states to work on that to promote exports and increase farmers’ income".

First Quarter Exports of agri and processed food products:-

Basmati Rice Quantity in 2018-2019 was 11,73,734 and in 2019-2020 is 11,56,868

Non Basmati Rice Quantity in 2018-2019 was 21,00,920 and in 2019-2020 is 11,94,690

Processed Fruits & Juice Quantity in 2018-2019 was 1,16,974 and in 2019-2020 is 1,29,382

Processed Vegetables Quantity in 2018-2019 was 50,694 and in 2019-2020 is 54,001

Pulses Quantity in 2018-2019 was 1,01,678 and in 2019-2020 is 45,344

Wheat Quantity in 2018-2019 was 34,171 and in 2019-2020 is 24,710
