Haryana power minister Ranjit Singh on Wednesday announced that the state government has set a goal of releasing 7,621 tubewell connections to farmers by July 15.

So far, 9,401 connections have been released. The minister said that “Those who had applied before 1 January 2019 are getting connections in a phased manner. Around 17,022 connections will be released in the 1st phase”.

The second stage will encompass about 40,000 applications. Farmers will be able to connect to tubewells by June 30, 2022. Around 39,571 farmers have been invited to have estimates created and pay the cost, while 19,672 others have already done so.

“In locations where the water table is below 100 feet, micro irrigation would be encouraged,” Singh said. Farmers from the scheduled caste category would receive an 80 percent subsidy, while those from the general category would receive a 60 percent subsidy for installing drip irrigation systems.”

“In locations where the groundwater level is less than 100 feet, the government will offer tubewell connections to farmers, and drip irrigation systems will be deployed in areas with a deeper water table,” he added.
