Flood-hit Dairy Farmers of Kerala to get Rs 1 Cr. Aid from Milma

Milma’s Thiruvananthpuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producer’s Union Ltd (TRCMPU) has declared to provide a financial aid of Rs 1 Cr. to the flood-hit dairy farmers for assistance in the flood hit areas.

Milma’s Thiruvananthpuram Regional Cooperative Milk Producer’s Union Ltd (TRCMPU) has declared to provide a financial aid of Rs 1 Cr. to the flood-hit dairy farmers for assistance in the flood hit areas. 

After an emergency meeting held on Monday in Thiruvananthpuram, the union made the following announcement regarding the relief measures. The Union indicated to recommend to the government to implement a special package for the dairy sector in Pathanamthitta and Alapphuza regions and also to declare them as protected dairy areas.

The Union said that a compensation of Rs 25,000/- will be given to the families of those who lost their lives to the floods and landslides, and the same will be given to the farmers who lost their cattle due to the unpleasant weather. The Union also assured to provide financial assistance to the dairy farmers who are affiliated to milk cooperatives to cure the disruptions that occurred in milk collection.

Moreover, the societies that are having difficulty in access to milk will be given transportation charge as the milk collection areas are in the flood-hit zone. 

Cattle in the affected areas will be getting free medical treatment and free cattle feed. Dairy cooperatives will also be organizing camps for this purpose. For cattle shed repairs, an aid of Rs 20,000/- and Rs 10,000/- for immediate building repairs for the cooperatives will also be provided. 

N. Bhasurangan, TRCMPU convener said – “nearly 1crore has been earmarked for emergency relief activities and further measures will be announced after visiting the affected areas.”
