Jamun is one of the indigenous fruits of India. It is believed to have some amazing medicinal properties and is considered boon for those suffering from diabetes. In India, most of the Jamun Trees are found in tropical & subtropical areas. It is widely grown in Indo-Gangetic plains & is cultivated on a large scale in Palghar Taluka of Maharashtra.

The climate here is considered very good for the cultivation of Jamun, but harvesting of Jamun fruit is very expensive for the farmers. Farmers have to face a lot of problems due to the high cost of the tools used to pluck its fruits.

Meanwhile, there is good news for the farmers cultivating Jamun, the Jamun growers are now being given subsidy by the government on the tool that is used for plucking the fruit. “Paranchi” is the tool used to pluck the fruit from the Jamun tree and it is made of bamboo.

An initiative is being taken to give a subsidy of about 10 lakhs for Paranchi through the Zilla Parishad of the state to help the farmers.

What is Paranchi?

Jamun tree is very tall and its branches are also very tough. Because of this it is not easy to break the fruit of this tree, so bamboo is used to pluck the fruit from the tree. Paranchi tools are made from bamboo. A small tree needs at least 70 bamboos (100 for large ones), apart from this ropes are needed to tie the bamboo together, so the cost of manufacturing it is at least Rs 20,000 to a farmer. Due to the high price of paranchi, the farmers were demanding subsidy for paranchi from the government.

6,000 Jamun Trees In Bahadoli Village

Bahadoli village of Palghar taluka is famous for its Jamun. The taste of berries here is considered to be the best and the berries here are famous in the state.

Jamun trees bear fruit in the month of March, 6000 high-quality Jamun trees have been planted in Bahdoli village alone. This number is increasing even more, because the climate here is considered good for jamun, a special type of bamboo paranchi has to be made to harvest this fruit.
