Parshottam Rupala Visited Brazil from 16th to 20th May 2022

The Minister visited the Zebu Museum and four cutting-edge cattle genomics and embryo laboratories in Uberaba, including ZebuEmbryo, ABS Semen and Embryos Central, Geneal Embryos Central, and Alta Genetics Semen Central.

Parshottam Rupala, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying, led a delegation of experts from the animal husbandry and dairying sectors, as well as representatives from the private sector, visited Brazil from 16- 20 May 2022, at the invitation of Brazil's Agriculture Minister.

Rupala met with his Brazilian counterpart, Marcos Montes Cordeiro, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, and both agreed to strengthen the mutually beneficial ties.

Rupala met with the Presidents of the Brazilian Association of Zebu Breeders (ABCZ), the Mayor of Uberaba, the Brazilian Confederation of Agriculture and Livestock (CNA), and the Brazilian Cooperatives Organization (OCB) to discuss ways to strengthen collaboration in the dairy sector through R&D, genetic improvement, and trade and investment.

During H.E. Bolsonaro's presidential visit in January 2020, Brazil signed 15 Memorandums of Understanding and Agreements with a country and decided to expand cooperation in various areas such as animal husbandry and dairying, oil and natural gas, bioenergy, ethanol, trade and investment, and many more.

During President Bolsonaro's visit to India, the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association (ABCZ) signed a Joint Declaration of Technical Cooperation. The Minister visited the Zebu Museum and four cutting-edge cattle genomics and embryo laboratories in Uberaba, including ZebuEmbryo, ABS Semen and Embryos Central, Geneal Embryos Central, and Alta Genetics Semen Central.

He praised their efforts and welcomed their desire to expand collaboration for mutually beneficial partnerships in the areas of animal husbandry and allied sectors.

In 2016, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (DAHD) and the Brazilian Agriculture Research Corporation signed an MoU. (EMBRAPA). In this regard, the Minister paid a visit to the Embrapa Cattle Dairy (Embrapa Gado de Leite) research centre in Juiz de Fora and emphasized the importance of completing and implementing a work plan under the MoU as soon as possible.

The key activities identified in the work plan are training Indian professionals in IVF technology in Brazil and identifying Brazilian companies to take up IVF embryo production in India.

In Brasilia, the Minister attended the curtain-raiser event for the International Day of Yoga 2022 celebrations in Brazil and met with a large number of Brazilian Yoga teachers. To promote Ayurveda, the Minister launched "Professor Ayushman," an Ayurveda comic book translated by the Embassy of India in collaboration with Brazilian Ayurveda expert Dr. Jose Ruguê. He met with a number of high-ranking officials from both the public and private sectors.

As part of India's 75th anniversary of independence, the Embassy is organizing a space exhibition at the Brazilian Planetarium from May 21 to June 10, 2022, to highlight the advances made by the Indian Space Agency ISRO. On May 20, 2022, the Minister officially opened the space exhibition.
