The Government on Tuesday, 24th February 2021 said it has disbursed over Rs 1.15 lakh crore to more than 10.75 crore farmers under Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana or PM-KISAN scheme and asked the states to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries are covered in scheme.
Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar while addressing an event on the occasion of the second anniversary of PM-KISAN yojana said the government has helped in increasing the income of farmers by providing Rs 6,000 per annum to farmers under this scheme.
It must be noted that the scheme was launched by PM Modi on 24 February 2019, from Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Tomar said around 10.75 crore farmers have benefitted from this scheme so far and the Central Government has sent more than Rs 1.15 lakh crore directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
He asked States to make sure that all eligible beneficiaries are included in this flagship scheme so that they get the benefit. Tomar further told there are many farmers who have been complaining that they are not getting benefits of PM-Kisan scheme.
Mentioning that there is enough provision of the fund in the budget for PM-Kisan yojana, the minister stressed ensuring effective implementation of this scheme.
"All eligible beneficiary must get the benefit of this yojana and no one is left out," Tomar said, adding that the number of people left out is not much.
The minister also said the initial target was to cover 14.5 crore farmers in the country and efforts are going on to add more beneficiaries.
Talking about West Bengal, which has not yet joined the scheme, he said the Centre would provide funds after the state government give the list of beneficiaries.
Tomar highlighted the initiatives taken by the Centre in the past six and half years including PM-Kisan scheme, creation of 10,000 FPOs and Rs 1 lakh crore agri-infrastructure fund.
