The onset of Monsoon is going well. Sowing of Kharif Crops has started across the states with the arrival of the monsoon. The government has issued a notification for Crop Insurance. The Agriculture Department has requested the farmers to insure their crops for protection from natural disasters. The process of getting insurance for Kharif -2020 has started in most states.

Farmers who have taken crop loans with Kisan Credit Card, their crop itself comes under the purview of insurance. Other farmers can insure the crop as per their choice. Moreover, crop insurance can also be done at Common Services Centers.

Every year, floods, storms, hailstorms, heavy rains or drought have spoiled a large number of farmers' crops. To protect crops from natural havoc, the Central Government has launched Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) on 13th January 2016. As per reports, the Agricultural Insurance Company of India (AIC) runs this scheme across the states.

Most of the farmers of Chhattisgarh engaged in cultivating paddy during the Kharif season, that’s the reason the state is known as a rice bowl.

As per the recent reports, the government has announced the last date of crop insurance as 15th July.

According to the Union Ministry of Agriculture, crops of paddy, maize, groundnut, soybean, pigeon peas, moong and urad are covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana this year. In such a situation, the government has appealed to the farmers to ensure that the crops must be insured, so that they can be protected from the natural calamities in the field of agriculture. The government has entrusted its work to 2 insurance companies, which will operate crop insurance work in the districts.
