Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget 2022 Highlights: Rs 1 lakh to 200 youth to Promote Agripreneurship, Free Electricity to Farmers & much more

MRK Paneerselvam, Tamil Nadu Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, will submit the agriculture budget for 2022-23 today, the first full-fledged State agricultural budget since the DMK administration led by Chief Minister MK Stalin took office in May last year, amid high expectations. The budget session is expected to go until March 24.

This is the DMK government's second agriculture budget submission. Here are the latest updates:

  • Agriculture Minister MRK Paneerselvam said that the Tamil Nadu government has set up Rs 8 crore towards digital agriculture.

  • MRK Paneerselvam, the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister, said that the "Sustainable Cotton Cultivation Mission" will be undertaken with a budget of Rs.15.32 crore from both the Union and State Governments in order to boost cotton yields in 2022-23.

  • At a cost of Rs 381 crore, three new food parks would be built in Theni, Tindivanam, and Manaparai.

  • Agriculture Minister MRK Paneerselvam said the Tamil Nadu government will take initiatives to produce 126 lakh metric tonnes of food grains in 2022-23.

  • 3,000 solar-powered pump sets will be installed by the Tamil Nadu government.

  • Agriculture and Family Welfare Minister MRK Paneerselvam said in his budget statement on Saturday that around Rs 150 crore has been set aside to buy machinery in order to address the agriculture labor crisis. In the fiscal year 2022-23, the Tamil Nadu government has allocated Rs 33,007.68 crore to the Agriculture Department.

  • The Tamil Nadu government would subsidize the manufacture of value-added items such as jaggery by 75%.

  • Tamil Nadu Agriculture Minister MRK Paneerselvam announced that Rs 3 crore will be set aside for the production of ginger and turmeric.

  • The Tamil Nadu government has allotted Rs 5,157.56 crore to give free electricity to all farmers throughout the state.

  • MRK Paneerselvam, the Agriculture Minister of Tamil Nadu, stated that the government was taking steps to promote soybean cultivation in the state's Tanjore, Salem, Tiruvallur, Nellai, and Villupuram districts.

  • 200 youth will get Rs 1 lakh to start an agro-based business.
