In the midst of the crisis of the automobile industry, onion farmers of Maharashtra have grabbed the attention of limelight for buying as many as 250 tractors in a single day during this festive season. While onion price was constantly in controversy for touching sky-high, now its onion farmer’s turn who are making breaking news for buying a good number of tractors in a single day.

As per the report, the purchase took place on the very first day of Navratri, despite the festive season failing to lift the slowdown of the auto industry.

A tractor buyer revealed in front of the media, “Some farmers in Kalwan taluka of Nashik district earned so much by selling onions that they purchased as many as 250 tractors on September 29”.

While onion prices were touching sky-high with Rs 70-80/kg which is highest of the last five years, these farmers earned a good amount of interest.  This earned rich dividends for farmers in tribal Kalwan taluka, a major onion growing region in the district.

In addition to the 250 tractors, 21 cars and around 400-500 two-wheelers were also sold on the same day which resulted in a transaction of Rs 30 crore in a single day, and around 70 percent of this purchase was in cash, an automobile dealer said.

Moreover, senior officials of some automobile companies reached Kalwan and the vehicles were handed over to the farmers in a ceremony, as the number of vehicles purchased was large.

Turbans were tied to the farmers by the officials and a procession of these customers was also reported to be taken out within the village.
