Union Agri Min Narendra Singh Tomar on Israel Tour To Discuss Agricultural Issues

Agriculture minister will hold a roundtable discussion with Israeli Agritech Startup companies at the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute in Tel-Aviv.

A delegation led by Union Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar will visit Israel from May 8-11, 2022, at the invitation of Israel's Minister of Agriculture, Oded Forer, for bilateral meetings to discuss various agricultural issues between the two countries.

On May 9, 2022, the delegation is invited to visit the facilities of Green 2000 - Agricultural Equipment and Know-How Ltd. and NETAFIM Ltd., which are involved in the planning, setup, consultation, and ongoing management of various projects in various spheres of agriculture and Micro & smart Irrigation Systems (drip irrigation) usage to paddy cultivation, sugarcane cultivation, and cotton cultivation, respectively.

In the afternoon, the agriculture minister will hold a roundtable discussion with Israeli Agritech Startup companies at the Israel Export & International Cooperation Institute in Tel-Aviv.

On the second day, the delegation is invited to the Agricultural Research Organization (ARO) – Volcani Institute, which is part of the Israeli Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and specializes in agriculture under arid conditions, on marginal soils, irrigation with effluent and saline water, and minimizing produce losses through the use of cutting-edge pest control and post-harvest storage methods.

According to a government statement, the Minister will also meet with Volcani's Postdoctoral Fellowship Program participants from India.

At Ganei Khna'an, near Kibbutz Naan, Agriculture Minister will be presented with drone agriculture technology solutions that combine advanced mapping and photography. The Minister will also pay a visit to a farm owned by an Indian-origin farmer who grows Indian vegetables in the Negec desert.

On the final day, the Minister will meet with Israel's Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Oded Forer, one-on-one in his office.

Finally, the delegation is invited to visit MASHAV's International Agricultural Training Centre in Shefayim, which has been in operation since 1963 and specializes in capacity building, knowledge transfer, and professional support in agriculture, water management, the environment, and rural development.
