Chayamansa is a very popular green leafy shrub from Mexico. This shrub is medicinal and it is considered the best leafy vegetable. It belongs to the Cnidoscolus Chayamansa family. It is also called Mayan Spinach because this plant was most popular among Mayan tribes.

Chaya is an easy to grow plant. It grows up to 12” which grows well in all climate and soil type. It is advisable to start harvesting Chaya after one year of planting. Up to half of the total count of the leaves can be collected. This shrub doesn’t need constant attention and it grows fast. Application of some organic mixtures can give more leaves.

Chaya plant rich in Potassium, Calcium, and Iron is not only for edible use but also used as an ornamental plant for of its lush green colour and beautiful leaves. Moreover, it can be used as an organic fence.

Chaya leaves should be cooked before consumption. This leafy shrub can be used for cooking in the same manner as that of green and red spinach. The Same recipe can be used to make Chayamansa dishes. For a four-membered family 15 to 20 leaves of Chayamansa is enough for a curry.
