With Rabi season almost coming to an end, it is time to start preparing for the sowing of summer vegetables! For this, you will need to prepare the soil by adding a small amount of cow dung manure or homemade organic waste manure to maintain fertility. 

This soil is then filled into pots, grow bags or beds, and fruit and vegetable seeds and plants are planted. But which vegetables should you sow in this season? Well, that’s exactly what we are going to tell you in this article. 

3 Vegetables to Sow in March 

Petha (Ash Gourd)  

Ash Gourd commonly known as Petha (in Hindi) is green on the outside and white on the inside. It is known by many different names such as Winter Mellon or Wax Gourd. You can buy its seeds from any seed store offline or online.  

How to grow Ash Gourd (Petha) in Pots? 

  • First, fill a small pot or seedling tray with soil and coco peat. Now put seeds in it and water it from above.

  • Seeds germinate and start growing in about a week or 10 days. In two weeks, the plants can be transplanted in big pots or grow bags.

  • You can plant two or three plants at equal distances in a bag.

  • The vine will need good sunshine to grow and also a bamboo or rope support. You can start fertilizing the plants about a month after planting. In addition, to protect the plants from pests, you can also mix neem oil in water and spray twice a month.

  • When your vine is 6-7 feet tall, the tip should be lightly cut off. It will help the vine to grow branches. In about two months, male and female flowers start appearing on these branches.

  • If your flowers are pollinating naturally, fine. Otherwise, you can do the pollination by hand yourself.

  • After about three months, the Gourds on your vine will be ready for harvesting.

Capsicum:

You can easily grow capsicum plants from seeds at home. It is a very nutritious vegetable having lots of Health benefits. 

How to Grow Capsicum at Home? 

  • Before sowing, it is essential to treat capsicum seeds with turmeric water. Then, let them dry in the sun. 

  • Fill the pot by adding soil up to an inch. You can take a mixture of 50% normal soil and the remaining 50% coco peat and compost.

  • Then add capsicum seeds and cover them with soil from above.

  • Keep spraying a little water for a few days.

  • After about 10 days you will see the seedlings coming.

  • When the plant grows to about an inch in height, transplant in a pot.

Arbi (Taro Root)

Arbi is a starchy root vegetable also known as Taro root. In most parts of India, it is cultivated from March to June. And you can grow this delicious vegetable at your Home!  

How to Grow Arbi (Taro Root) At Home? 

  • You don’t need to purchase its seeds from the market. Actually, the easiest way to propagate taro is from tubers. For this, you have to take the knots of Arbi with protruding buds and a pot of about 16 inches to sow taro; For the potting mix, add sand and compost in normal soil.

  • Fill the pots with potting mix and sow the tubers. Be cautious not to add too much of water!

  • It takes about a month for Arabic to flourish. You can harvest it in May – June.
