The 12th edition of Expogenética was officially launched on 15 July 2019 in Uberaba. The exhibition will start on 17 August at Parque Fernando Costa. This year technical lectures and appreciation of improvement of Zebu breeds will be the main highlight of the exhibition that is continuing the centenary celebration of the Brazilian Zebu Breeders Association (ABCZ).
ABCZ President Arnaldo Manuel de Souza Machado Borges during the launch said that the advances in the Genomic era and the challenges of the sector will be the main themes of the discussion and workshop with the participation of renowned experts.
"Genomics is bringing new avenues for genetic improvement work. In the Zebu breeds, we have been able to officially advance this process over the past two years with our project and the genotyping of the first animals. But everything is still new and the possibilities that genomic mapping offers are huge, so it is so important for us to debate to learn more about the tool, where we can go and what the next steps are, "he added.
According to ABCZ, by the first half of May, more than 87,500 animals were genotyped in the association's database. The forecast is that by the end of this year, this amount will exceed 100 thousand.
Considering these data, during Expogenetics will be launched the second Summary of Bulls Zebu Genetic Improvement Program (PMGZ) / Geneplus, developed by ABCZ in partnership with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa). During the exhibition will also be presented summaries of several other programs.
This time, the total contest period will be 20 days, being 15 days of adaptation and five days of effective competition, with two daily milkings, and ending on August 9th. The award, which will take place during Expogenetics, will take into account Total Corrected Milk (LCST).
ABCZ reported that, so far, more than 40 companies have confirmed presence for this edition of Expogenética. In addition to the biotechnology showcase for genetic improvement, visitors will check out new equipment for even more efficient livestock as tools for solar energy system deployment, for weighing, logs, scales, and nutrition and pest control solutions.
Within Expogenética, the 2nd edition of ExpoMaq - Agricultural Machinery and Implements Fair will also be held.
ABCZ Woman and ABCZ Young-During the 12th Expogenetics, the ABCZ Mulher Commission will promote, in partnership with the Brazilian Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae), the 2nd ABCZ Women's Meeting. The central theme will be diversity in the business world: female insight and its connections. In the programming is confirmed lecture by journalist Kellen Severo.
Aimed at rural workers, on the 15th and 16th of August the Breast Cancer and Cervix Cancer Day will be held. The event will be attended by the trailer of the Hospital do Amor in Uberaba, which should perform more than 100 exams. The action is a partnership between ABCZ Mulher Commission, University of Uberaba (Uniube), Rural Union of Uberaba (SRU), Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Minas Gerais (Emater-MG) and Rural Security Council of Uberaba (Conser ).
And in order to encourage the formation of new farmers and leaders for Brazilian agribusiness, representatives of ABCZ Jovem will participate in the 29th Brazilian Congress of Zootechnics (Zootec).
The event, promoted by the Brazilian Association of Zootechnists (ABZ), Fazu, ABCZ and Sebrae, will be held from 13 to 16 August. The program, which aims to discuss topics related to innovation, such as entrepreneurship and startup development, will also feature panels and practical activities related to genetic improvement, animal welfare and the environment.
