To fulfill the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in doubling farmers income by 2022, the ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute in Barrackpore (Kolkata) is providing required help to the Cyclone-affected fishermen of the Sagar Island in Sundarbans.
ICAR gave essential fishing inputs to fish farmers
In this regard, ICAR-CIFRI had organized a programme wherein it distributed essential inputs like fish seed, lime, feed and medicine to a huge number of Scheduled Caste (SC) & Scheduled Tribe (ST) beneficiaries (approx. 350) of Sagar Island. The programme was organized at the two places i.e. Jibontala (150 Beneficiaries) & Krishnanagar (200 Beneficiaries) covering the beneficiaries of 14 Villages and 5 Gram Panchayats of Gangasagar last week.
The fishers were provided with various inputs like 36 Tonnes of fish feed, around 100 Lakh fish seed & 350 Medicines (200 ml for fish).
Minister of Sundarbans Affairs & Development, Government of West Bengal, Bankim Hazra marked his presence as the Chief Guest of the occasion.
During the event, Director of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata, Dr. B.K. Das apprised the Minister about the Institute’s initiatives as well as strategy for the development and welfare of Gangasagar Fish Farmers. Dr. Das asked for doubling the farmers’ income by the scientific fish farming & proper utilization of inputs from the ICAR-CIFRI through the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan / STC Programme.
Panchayat Pradhan of Rudranagar, Sagar Namita Hazra also applauded the Institute’s efforts. She urged the farmers for using their resources and the Institute’s support so as to double their income.
The entire event was conducted by the Swami Vivekananda Youth and Cultural Society in Sagar together with the Staff Members of ICAR-CIFRI, Barrackpore, Kolkata.
