World Food Day 2023: History

All member countries unanimously agreed to mark this day on October 16, with the official celebration starting in 1981.

The decision to designate October 16 as the United Nations General Assembly subsequently approved World Food Day on December 5, 1980. Since then, this special day has garnered participation and support from various global organizations and governments, all working together to raise awareness about the critical importance of food.
