Colombia becomes member of World Avocado Organization

The World Avocado Organization (WAO), the group that promotes the consumption as well as awareness of avocados at a global level, has welcomed its newest member, Colombia.

The World Avocado Organization (WAO), the group that promotes the consumption as well as awareness of avocados at a global level, has welcomed its newest member, Colombia.

 

The announcement was made at the opening of Asia Fruit Logistica by Chairman of WAO, Zac Bard. It must be noted that WAO’s existing member countries include Mexico, Peru, US, South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and Spain.

Colombia is home to some of the leading Hass avocado producers as well as exporters in the world, which includes Fruity Green, Cartama - Avofruit, SA & Westfalia Colombia and all of these have also officially joined the WAO.  The country presently produces over 15000 hectares of Hass.

The WAO now represents more than 70 percent of the avocados that moves around the European Market, with the presence of Columbia, its new member. Hence it’s great news for the European market that has a consumption rate rising tremendously and provides opportunities for the existence of this exotic Avocado.
