Avocado is a pear-shaped tropical fruit with green, reddish-purple or blackish skin and has a rich yellowish pulp enclosing a single large seed. One-fifth of a Peruvian avocado has 50 calories, is free of cholesterol and sodium and also contains almost 20 vitamins and minerals.
To bring the freshest produce to Indian markets, IG International, India’s largest importer of fresh fruits, has brought in its first shipment of Peruvian Hass avocados to India. The company plans to import 1000 tonnes of Peruvian Hass avocados, which will be distributed across Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Cochin.
Avocados are a popular superfood. They are slightly nutty, creamy and full of flavour. Hass avocados in particular are versatile in the way one can consume them. The fat in the rich Hass avocados make for better taste and texture, apart from being highly nutritious. Unlike other varieties, these avocados have more healthy fat content and are considered to be ideal for a low-carb diet. This is also why they are favoured by many weight-watchers. Additionally, avocado oil has proven benefits for a healthy heart and skin. It can help lower and control cholesterol levels. Moreover, avocados are said to contain more potassium than bananas, along with being rich in several vitamins. IG International is pricing these widely consumed avocados at INR 750 per kilogram.

These include Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Pune, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kolkata, Cochin, Patna, and Nagpur. The demand for avocados is increasing year on year in the country, and IG International currently holds a market share of 42% for the superfood. The company’s primary customers for avocados are supermarkets, restaurants and hotels. The Peruvian Hass avocados, in particular, will be available across Foodhall and Nature’s Basket stores.
