Mandi Updates: Mustard Wholesale Prices Rise Across Benchmark Markets

Among all the regions, Haryana saw the highest increase of 9.02% to around Rs 5,548 per quintal, followed by Gujarat with a 7.22% increase to Rs 5,452.

The wholesale prices of mustard rose across the benchmark markets as of April 4, according to the data from the Agmarknet portal run by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. 

The month-on-month average wholesale prices of mustard in April increased to Rs 5,408.67 per quintal from Rs 5,271.27. Among all the regions, Haryana saw the highest increase of 9.02% to around Rs 5,548 per quintal, followed by Gujarat with a 7.22% increase to Rs 5,452. 

Other states and union territories where the wholesale prices increased are Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. In Karnataka, the prices increased by almost 1.86% to Rs 7,500 per quintal, and in Madhya Pradesh by 1.8% to Rs 4,907. In Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the prices rose slightly by around 0.43% to Rs 4,869 and by 0.52% to Rs 5,176, respectively.

However, the wholesale prices of mustard fell in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. In Maharashtra, the prices slumped by 16.85% to Rs 5,203 per quintal, in Chhattisgarh by 10.05% to Rs 4,475, and in West Bengal by around 0.89% to Rs 5,548.

Mustard is prominently a rabi crop. It is majorly grown in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, and Bihar. Besides India, this oilseed is majorly grown in Nepal, Pakistan, the United States, and Canada.
