Poor upcountry demand: Turmeric Prices going down

Due to the poor upcountry demand, the turmeric prices at Erode markets have come down by more than Rs 400 a quintal within the span of a week. As per information, the buyers only purchased 60 percent of the arrivals until Saturday.

Due to the poor upcountry demand, the turmeric prices at Erode markets have come down by more than Rs 400 a quintal within the span of a week. As per information, the buyers only purchased 60 percent of the arrivals until Saturday.

Finger variety turmeric was sold at Rs 5600- Rs 8600 and the root variety was sold at Rs 5000- 8000 a quintal at the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

The price of the root variety turmeric came down by Rs 150 and that of the finger variety came down by Rs 200.  The finger variety turmeric was priced at Rs 7,193-8,329 a quintal and the root variety was priced at Rs 6,931-7,819 at the Regulated Marketing Committee.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, out of the 877 bags on sale, 813 were sold.
