Agriculture sector is the most promising however challenging sector because it depends on climate, weather, soil water, inputs, management practices. The use of advanced technologies such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) or drones in agriculture provides potential to face different challenges and obtain solutions.

The major applications of UAVs (drones) in agriculture are crop monitoring, soil and field analysis, spraying pesticides and fertilizers. It has huge potential and its use in agriculture can ignite a big change in improving the efficiency of agriculture. The use of UAVs with sensors can detect crop health issues in real time, accurately assess losses after a major weather event that can save some money by limited use of labor and resources.

Objectives:

  • To acquire basic knowledge of UAVs and its application domain.

  • To understand integration of UAVs with different payloads.

  • To learn how to configure, calibrate UAVs and plan a field mission.

  • To study and understand different sensors for data acquisition using UAVs.

  • To acquaint with current operational rules, regulatory guidelines and understand ethics/privacy associated with UAV flights and use of data.
