The dairy industry in India is witnessing a surge in demand, yet the supply often falls short, leading to unmet needs. Recognizing this gap, the Uttar Pradesh government has been rolling out such schemes to enhance milk production. One such initiative is the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, a scheme aimed to boost dairy farming by offering significant subsidies to farmers. If you are considering starting a dairy farm, you can take advantage of this program. Let's know this scheme in detail. Read on.

Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana

Launched in 2023 by the Uttar Pradesh government under the Nand Baba Mission, the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana aims to improve cattle breeds and raise milk production in the state. Led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the scheme focuses on enhancing breeds like Sahiwal, Gir, Tharparkar, and Gangatiri to boost both milk production and the income of dairy farmers. The Dairy Commissioner and Mission Director oversee the scheme's implementation, targeting breed improvement to address the low per-animal milk production prevalent in Uttar Pradesh.

Subsidy and More

Under this scheme, the government provides a substantial 50% subsidy on the estimated cost of Rs 62.5 lakh for establishing a dairy unit comprising 25 milch cows. The maximum subsidy per beneficiary stands at Rs 31.25 lakh. Initially, the scheme will be implemented in ten divisional headquarters across the state. To be eligible, beneficiaries must have a minimum of 3 years of cattle farming experience and meet specific land requirements.

Eligible Breed of Cows

Beneficiaries of the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana are required to invest in cows of superior breeds, including Gir, Sahiwal, Tharparkar, and Gangatiri, famous for their high milk yield. This scheme is for farmers and dairy farmers in Uttar Pradesh, where despite ranking at the top in milk production, the per-animal milk production remains low due to a shortage of high-quality milch animals. By promoting these superior breeds, the government aims to address this gap and elevate milk production levels in the state.

Benefits of the Scheme

The scheme unfolds in three phases, each offering unique benefits to the beneficiaries. In the first phase, a 25% subsidy is provided for the construction of dairy units. Subsequent phases include 12.5% subsidies for the purchase of milch cows, their 3-year insurance, transportation, and the remaining 12.5% of the project cost subsidized in the final phase.

Eligibility & Required Documents

To avail of the scheme benefits, applicants must establish a minimum of 3 years of experience in cattle farming and ensure ear tagging of the cows. Additionally, they must possess a minimum of 0.5 acres of land for establishing the dairy unit and 1.5 acres for green fodder. Necessary documents include identification proof, proof of residence, income certificate, bank account details, passport-size photos, and a mobile number linked with Aadhar.

How to Apply

Livestock farmers can apply for the scheme both online and offline. In case of a surplus of applications, the selection will be conducted through e-lottery by a committee chaired by the chief development officer. The scheme's initial phase has been rolled out in districts including Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Lucknow, Kanpur, Jhansi, Meerut, Agra, and Bareilly.

Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana presents a significant opportunity for dairy farmers in Uttar Pradesh to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to the state's milk production. With substantial subsidies and a focus on superior cattle breeds, this scheme holds promise for the dairy sector's growth and prosperity.
