Ayurveda is the traditional type  of treatment that prevails in India. It has been practiced in India since time immemorial, that is, from the time of sages who lived in the middle of flora and fauna. For the same reason, this branch of medical science is said to be quiet natural. Today in this article, we will tell you as to how ayurveda is different from allopathy and what are its benefits.

Meaning of Ayurveda

The term 'Ayurveda' means' the science of life'. At the beginning, there were no textbooks of any kind that describes about the diseases and treatments in India. The knowledge about this branch was then orally transmitted from one generation to another. Only around 5000 years ago, everything about it was written and recorded.

Ayurveda believes in eliminating the root causes of a disease instead of managing disease like Allopathy. It tells us how to prevent diseases in a natural way. In this system, the different parts of plants and trees are used to prepare medicines for various maladies.

The authentic books about Ayurveda are Charaka Samhita, Ashtanga Hridaya and  Sushruta Samhita. This medical science is practised on the basis of three things in our body ; vata, pitta and khapha. They are closely related to five elements in the universe, namely, earth, water, air, fire and space.

In vata, air and space are  dominant while in  pitta fire element is active. Earth and water are the two elements that are powerful in kapha. According to Ayurveda, a perfect balance of  vata, pitta and kapha provides good health to every individual.

The principles in Ayurveda tell every individual will be influenced by one or more of these three 'doshas'. It is because of their constitution.'Doshas' not only affects one's body , but his mind , tendencies and emotions as well.

Today, Ayurveda is very popular among foreigners. They come to India to study this age old traditional treatment of East. Many researches are also carried out by scholars from different countries. Many people from foreign countries come and stay  in Ayurveda hospitals in India every year to take this natural treatments for their illnesses.
