There is great news for over 33 lakh government employees working under various departments in India. According to media sources, the Centre intends to grant them 18-month DA arrears. Thousands of employees have been waiting for the Centre to take this step for a long time.

Over 33 Lakh Govt. Employees Are Eagerly Waiting

As per media reports, central government employees have petitioned the Centre to clear their DA arrears, which have been frozen for 18 months due to the pandemic. Apart from existing government employees, the Indian Pensioners' Forum (BMS) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, requesting that the arrears of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) of central employees and pensioners be cleared.

If rumors are to be believed, a meeting with the cabinet secretary will be conducted right before Christmas (December 24 (tentative)) to discuss the issue. The Centre, on the other hand, has made it clear that it has no plans to pay DA arrears to central staff.

However, given the persistent demand and the letter from the pensioners to Prime Minister Modi, a decision can be made on this subject.

According to the Pay Commission report, the country's central employees total 33 lakh and are eagerly waiting for the news from the government.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Finance Ministry postponed the DA hike from May 2020 to June 30th, 2021. The central government must now make a decision on the employees' DA arrears. If the Finance Ministry agrees to this request and gives its approval, a large sum of money will be sent into the employees' bank accounts.

DA Hike To 31%

Thousands of employees around the country will be happy as a result of this event. The DA was raised to 31% by the Centre in October. The benefits are now available to over 48 lakh central government employees and over 65 lakh retirees.

The National Council of JCM's Shiv Gopal Mishra told Zee Business that the DA arrears of Level-1 employees range from Rs 11,880 to Rs 37,554. Employees' DA arrears for Level-13 (7th CPC basic pay bracket Rs 1,23,100 to Rs 2,15,900) or Level-14 (pay scale) will be Rs 1,44,200 and Rs 2,18,200, respectively.
