7th Pay Commission Latest News: The central government employees have been hoping for good news from Prime Minister Narendra Modi government for a long time. The central government employee may soon get their Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, which have been suspended for the past 18 months, would be reimbursed.
Over 33 Lakh Central Government Employees Are Eagerly Waiting
Central government employees have petitioned the Centre, according to media reports, to clear their DA arrears, which have been held for 18 months due to the pandemic. Apart from current government employees, the Indian Pensioners' Forum (BMS) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging those central employees' and pensioners' arrears of Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) to be cleared.
One Time Settlement of Dearness Allowances Arrears
According to several media reports, the Cabinet Council has demanded that a one-time settlement of DA arrears, which have been frozen for 18 months, be made as part of the restoration of Dearness Allowances. According to rumors, the Union Cabinet and the Cabinet Secretary will convene in this regard before December 25.
The arrears have already been considered by the JCM National Council, the Department of Personnel and Training, and the Ministry of Finance. However, no decision has yet been made.
For the uninitiated, the DA is a cost-of-living adjustment allowance paid by the government to public sector employees as well as retirees who worked in the same sector.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Take Final Decision
Now, Prime Minister Narendra Modi must make a definitive decision on the pending 18-month DA arrears; the employees are overjoyed with this.
If PM Modi provides his approval, a large sum of money will be transferred to the employees' bank accounts. The DA has previously been raised to 31% by the Modi government. This affects more than 48 lakh central government employees and more than 65 lakh retirees.
