Employees of the Central Government, who have been waiting for a hike in their salary for several months, are set to receive good news this month. According to recent media reports, the Dearness Allowance for employees may increase by 4% in September, bringing the whole Dearness Allowance up to 38%.

The Centre may declare a DA hike in September and start the money transfer process at the same time. Employees may also get arrears for the months of July and August in addition to the Dearness Allowance increase.

The Central Government has not, however, formally approved any proposal for a Dearness Allowance (DA) increase beginning on July 1, 2022.

The Dearness Allowance is revised twice a year; the first revision is given from January to June, and the second revision is given from July to December. Central Government employees must know this information.

Data from the Ministry of Labour & Employment show that the All-India CPI-IW increased by 1.7 points to 127.7 in April 2022. Additionally, it climbed by 1.35 percent in comparison to the previous month, compared to a rise of 0.42 percent between corresponding months a year earlier.

According to the ministry report, the AICPI numbers for May are 129, and the AICP Index for June suggests that the DA will likely increase. The June AICPI numbers were 129.

The first increase in the dearness allowance for 2022 was announced in March 2022, following the decline in pandemic cases. In order to offset price increases and inflation, the Union Cabinet increased Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) on March 30 by 3% to 34%, which benefited more than 1.16 crore central government employees and pensioners.

On social media, a fake article recently surfaced saying that the DA had already been increased. In a later statement, the Centre clarified that the report stating a DA increase of 4% for Central Government Employees was false.

In the clarification, the PIB Fact Check stated that a fake order that has been spreading on WhatsApp claims that an extra DA installment will begin to be paid on July 1st, 2022. The DA hike announcement is made by the Department of Expenditure (DOE) and it has not issued any such order.
