Actress Kangana Ranaut has appeared before the Mumbai Police on Thursday in connection with a FIR filed against her over a social media post that reportedly linked farmers' demonstrations to a separatist group, her lawyer commented.

Around 11 a.m., Ranaut arrived at the Khar police station. Following a complaint from a Sikh organisation, a FIR was filed against her last month.

Rizwan Sidiquee, her lawyer, said she went to the police station to record her statement.

She was served with a notice by the police earlier this month. Her lawyer told the Bombay High Court that she would appear in front of the Khar police on December 22nd. Her counsel, on the other hand, requested a new court date on Wednesday.

The city police had previously assured the court that they would not arrest Ranaut until January 25, 2022, for allegedly linking farmers' protests to a separatist group on social media.

The police statement came after the high court ruled that the case was about Ranaut's fundamental right to free speech and that the court would have to provide her ad-interim relief.

Ranaut had petitioned the high court to have the FIR filed against her at the Khar police station dismissed.

An FIR was filed against Ranaut after certain members of a Sikh group complained that the actor had depicted the farmers' demonstration on Delhi's borders as a Khalistani movement through an Instagram post.

Ranaut was charged with intentionally injuring the religious sensibilities of the community, according to Section 295-A of the Indian Penal Code.

On November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the farm laws will be scrapped. He had stated that the Centre has done its best to educate and enlighten farmers about the legislation and that it would continue to strive for their development.
