All-India Inter-agri Universities Games begin in Punjab

Four-day All India Inter-Agricultural Universities Games 2018-19 started at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on 2nd January 2019. According to sources, about 2,000 participants from 65 agricultural, horticultural and veterinary universities from India will take part in this sports extravaganza.

Four-day All India Inter-Agricultural Universities Games 2018-19 started at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) on 2nd January 2019. According to sources, about 2,000 participants from 65 agricultural, horticultural and veterinary universities from India will take part in this sports extravaganza.

The playoffs were declared open by Dr VP Chahal, ADG of ICAR, Delhi along with Dr BS Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor of PAU. After that, the players took the oath to play in true sportsmanship spirit.

Dr Chahal praised the well-built sports infrastructure facilities at the PAU. He also shared the varsity’s huge contribution to the nation in terms of food security and also for the national and international sportspersons, the college has produced.

He added, “Punjab Agricultural University has an exceptional honour of producing 3 hockey Olympians whereas some of the most famed alumni have instituted several awards for outstanding sportspersons”.

On his turn, Dr Dhillon underlined ICAR’s role in developing sports infrastructure at the PAU. He dwelled on the significance of sports in shaping the character and personality of youngsters. Dr Dhillon also emphasised on student’s teamwork in sports across different universities to get back the lost glory in hockey.

Director of Students Welfare, PAU and organising secretary for games, Dr Ravinder Kaur Dhaliwal welcomed Dr Chahal and other guests at the sporting event. She expressed gratitude towards ICAR for assigning Punjab Agricultural University with the responsibility of hosting the event after 12 years.
