India’s former finance minister Arun Jaitley is in a “critical” condition according to the sources. Since August 9, Arun Jaitley has been admitted to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and put under life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The former union minister has been put on ECMO (Extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation) which is also known as extracorporeal life support. This is an extracorporeal technique of providing prolonged cardiac and respiratory support to persons whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange or perfusion to sustain life.
"Doctors at AIIMS are doing the best they can", said Health Minister Dr. Vardhan on Friday.
Jaitley, 66, has been undergoing treatment under the surveillance of a multidisciplinary team of doctors in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of AIIMS since August 9 after he was admitted with complaints of uneasiness, weakness and breathlessness.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah had visited AIIMS at around 11.30 pm on Friday, an hour after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath went to see Jaitley and enquire about his health.
President Ram Nath Kovind also visited the hospital earlier on Friday accompanied by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan and Minister of State for Health Ashwini Choubey.
The hospital has not issued any bulletin on his health condition since August 10.
