Modi government, last week had announced that it would open inoculation for all above the age of 18 from 1 May 2021. In January, India started the largest vaccination drive in the world by inoculating healthcare, sanitation & other frontline workers in the 1st phase.

In the 2nd phase of Covid vaccination drive, government allowed those above 60 years and 45 years with comorbidities to get their shots. Soon after, the centre liberalised its policy and everybody who was 45 or above could get their jabs.

It is important to mention that India has been using 2 vaccines – Covishield (by Pune-based Serum Institute of India) & Covaxin (manufactured by Bharat Biotech) - to vaccinate people.
