Skye Air, a drone delivery logistics leader, unveils a report showing drone technology's potential to transform India's agriculture. It exposes high post-harvest waste in fresh produce and suggests drone delivery can reduce waste, empower farmers, and enhance supply chain efficiency and sustainability.

India faces a critical issue with annual post-harvest losses in the fresh produce sector, amounting to 30-40% (Rs. 13,300 crores or $1.8 billion). Factors like spoilage, storage limitations, inefficient transportation, and market access contribute. Skye Air highlights the potential of drone deliveries to transform the agricultural industry, with a pilot project by MANAGE reducing wastage by about 20%, demonstrating the effectiveness of this innovative solution.

"By transitioning a substantial portion of transportation from roads to drone deliveries, farmers can actively participate in curbing carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly practices. The introduction of drone delivery within the fresh fruits and vegetables industry not only yields cost and time savings but also plays a pivotal role in diminishing carbon footprints.

These advantages not only boost the profitability of farmers and expedite the delivery of fresh produce but also champion environmental sustainability across the agricultural supply chain," stated Ankit Kumar, the Founder & CEO of Skye Air.

Significantly, a study featured in the International Journal of Scientific Research and Management (IJSRM) conducted an analysis of the impact of drone delivery in mitigating agricultural wastage. The research indicated that implementing drone-based delivery systems has the potential to slash post-harvest losses by as much as 50%.

Embracing drone technology carries substantial economic benefits for farmers, consumers, and the entire agricultural commodities industry. The reduction in post-harvest losses translates into increased earnings for farmers, while consumers enjoy enhanced access to top-quality produce at stable prices. This transition towards more sustainable and efficient practices contributes to the overall growth of the sector and boosts the nation's GDP.
