Experts Urge Farmers to Embrace DSR Method for Rice Sowing to Enhance Crop Yield

Farmers in the district were encouraged to use the direct-seeded rice (DSR) technique for rice sowing during a district-level agri-awareness programme held at the Sahnewal grain market under the supervision of Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) Dr Narinder Benipal.

Sahnewal MLA According to Hardeep Mundian, the state government is concerned about the lowering water table. "Farmers should be wise enough to adopt new techniques that are readily available today. Saving the environment requires a collaborative effort from the government, administration, and the general public, particularly farmers," the MLA continued.

Surabhi Malik, Deputy Commissioner of Ludhiana, has urged farmers to launch a battle against insensitive water use. She also praised all farmers whose wise decision not to burn stubble has enabled Ludhiana to cut the menace by half compared to previous years. She pushed growers to use sowing techniques that would allow them to use more and more water.

Dr Raj Kumar, Joint Director of the Department of Farmers Welfare and Agriculture, attempted to encourage farmers to abandon traditional paddy seeding methods in favour of the scant water technology.

"Lowering water tables and deteriorating soil health should force us to rethink and adopt the technique of direct sowing, which has far better results than traditional methods," he said.

Dr. Benipal stated that the Agriculture Department's major goal was to offer farmers with high-quality seeds, fertilizers, and insecticides in a timely manner.

"Camps will be held at both the village and block levels in the coming days to convince farmers to abandon traditional methods of showing rice and adopt the latest DSR technology," the CAO added. He urged farmers to take advantage of crop diversification programmes.
