According to a statement from the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, farmers protesting at Delhi's borders against the Centre's latest agri laws will celebrate May Day as Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Diwas.

The agitation is being led by the Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farm unions. On Friday, farmers commemorated the 400th birthday of Sri Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Guru of the Sikhs.

"Farmers have been camped on Delhi's outskirts for more than five months. Farmers are being forced to comply with laws imposed by the central government. Farmers are battling, drawing inspiration from Guru Teg Bahadur Ji "According to the quote.

Religious groups, including farmer officials, urged people to participate the protest in whatever way they could. May Day will be celebrated as Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Divas on May 1 after a joint meeting of the SKM and Central Trade Unions.

"On all demonstration sites on Saturday, staff and farmers will jointly oppose the government," the statement said.

Since November last year, tens of thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at Singhu, Tikri, and Ghazipur, seeking a full revocation of the three farm laws as well as a legal guarantee for the minimum support price on their crops.
