"FCI Transformation To Be Done Quickly to Help Country's People": Piyush Goyal

Goyal directed the Secretary, Department of Food and Public Distribution, in his speech, to monitor the transformation of FCI and Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) every week and to update him on the status every two weeks. He stated that officers who refuse to cooperate with or delay the transformation process must face severe consequences.

Concerning the ongoing investigation into alleged cases of corruption within the FCI, Goyal stated that it is a wake-up call for the organization and assured that no one found to be involved in corrupt practices will be spared. He stated that FCI will adhere to the principle of zero tolerance for corruption. Goyal directed the Secretary to establish a mechanism for rewarding whistleblowers. He urged all FCI officers and employees to report any instances of corruption.

Goyal lauded FCI for implementing the world's largest food supply chain system, particularly during the pandemic, to ensure a continuous supply of foodgrains under the "Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana" (PMGKAY). He claimed that, despite the Covid pandemic, no one in the country went to bed hungry.

He stated that India has set a global example in areas such as food security, economic strengthening, inflation control, and others. Goyal stated that the rice procurement figures for the year are encouraging, and he anticipates a strong wheat procurement in the coming season as well.

Minister of State, Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, who was virtually present at the event, lauded FCI's remarkable work during the pandemic by ensuring adequate supply of food grains in every part of the country, particularly to vulnerable sections of society, under PM's visionary scheme of PMGKAY. Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary DFPD, was also present at the event and directed CMD FCI, Ashok KK Meena, to ensure a system of eliminating corruption and providing people with an efficient and transparent service.
