On November 17 and 18, the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will host a virtual agriculture summit and awards ceremony.

The summit ‘Envisioning Smart & Sustainable Agricultureaims to bring together all important stakeholders and policymakers on a single platform to develop a workable smart and sustainable agriculture plan.

"The initiative's main goal is to discuss and identify practical paths for large-scale promotion and adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, as well as to raise awareness about the already available solutions for smart and sustainable agriculture," according to FICCI officials.

The plenary sessions will cover topics such as improving agri-inputs for long-term productivity and farm incomes, post-harvest interventions for a sustainable supply chain, effective partnerships for climate-resilient agriculture, and partnerships with BRICS for long-term agriculture development.

During the event, a knowledge report titled "India Beyond 75: Envisioning Smart and Sustainable Agriculture" will be released. On November 18, there will be a 'FICCI Sustainable Agriculture Awards' event as well as a 'Special Session with Government’.

Smart farming decreases the environmental impact of agriculture. In precision agriculture systems, reduced or site-specific application of inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides will reduce leaching issues and greenhouse gas emissions.

With today's technology, it's possible to set up a sensor network that allows for near-constant farm monitoring. Similarly, with today's ICT, theoretical and practical frameworks for connecting the conditions of plants, animals, and soils with the needs for production inputs like water, fertilizer, and pharmaceuticals are within reach.

CEOs and corporate leaders from the agri-food industry, policymakers, multilateral and bilateral institutions, NGOs, academicians, researchers, embassies, financial institutions, development organizations, and others will attend the summit.
