GADVASU Announces Names of Progressive Farmers for Chief Minister’s Awards

On March 24th, the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) in Ludhiana will honour four innovative livestock producers in the state.

Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, stated that GADVASU is making every effort to enhance the state's livestock sector by expanding its extension programmes.

To inspire diverse types of livestock producers, the university runs unique competitions that analyze the extent and impact of these technologies' adoption in enhancing the productivity and profitability of various livestock farming systems.

The institution received a lot of applications in response to this response. A committee of experts, including Deans and Directors, visited the cattle producers who competed and reviewed the entire farming system.

After final decision, the university announced the names of winners in different categories. In the buffalo category Gurdev Singh S/O Kashmir Singh Vill. Fatehgarh Sabhra, Distt. Firozepur was selected for the award. He started dairy farming in 1994. Now he has 17 animals. One of his buffalo produced 23.5 litre milk in a day. He has a conventional but very comfortable and airy shed with fans and foggers.

In the goat farming category Balwinder Singh Mann S/O Darshan Singh, Vill. Tungwali Distt. Bathinda has been selected for the award. He started goat farming in 2017. Now he has 379 head count. He is producing 2.5-3 litre milk per day per goat.

Khushwant Singh S/O S. Swarn Singh, Vill. Chhangla, Distt. Hoshiarpur has been selected for the award in the fish farming category. He started fish farming in 1997 with 5 acres of land and now has increased his farms to 28 acres area. He is doing fish farming in a scientific manner.

In Piggery category Amandeep Singh S/O S. Hardev Singh, Vill. Bhai Desa, Distt. Mansa will be decorated with the award. Now he has 165 pigs.

He has developed modern and comfortable sheds. He prepares feed on the recommendations of university experts. Dr. Brar informed that these awards carry plaque, shawl and citation along with cash.
