It has been reported that the Tamil Nadu government has decided to implement a scheme to provide Rs 1000 a month to the head of the family during the Pongal festival.

Damage by Rain

Many districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, have been badly affected by the northeast monsoon and low-pressure zone. Therefore, the government of Tamil Nadu is forced to rescue people from the effects of rain and floods and thus they have announced a special Pongal gift package for ration card holders, seeking the assistance of the Central Government for this purpose.

But the amount of financial help (whether Rs.2, 000 or Rs.2,500) has not been decided by the government. In the past few years, the Tamil Nadu government has given Rs. 2000 & Rs. 2500 to the people during Pongal.

Rs.1000 to Head of Family

Chief Minister MK Stalin had ordered the distribution of the following 20 items to ration cardholders and families living in Sri Lankan Tamil rehabilitation camps before the forthcoming Thai Pongal in 2022. The date for the distribution of this Pongal gift has also been announced.

The Pongal prize announced by the Government of Tamil Nadu will be given from January 3, 2022.
