The Graduate School at the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) is excited to announce a unique opportunity for doctoral students enrolled in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic sessions. In collaboration with Western Sydney University (WSU) in Australia, the institute is announcing a Dual PhD Degree program, inviting expressions of interest (EoIs) from eligible candidates. This program aims to foster international collaboration and provide students with a platform to pursue advanced research in agricultural sciences.

Dual-Degree Structure: Participants in the program will have the opportunity to earn two doctoral degrees simultaneously—one from IARI and one from WSU. This dual-degree structure is in accordance with the University Grants Commission regulations and established memoranda of understanding between ICAR-IARI, and WSU.

Study Duration: The program entails a minimum study period of 18 months at each institution, totaling 36 months. However, slight variations in duration may occur based on institutional schedules, with a maximum duration set by IARI regulations.

Financial Support: WSU will provide a full tuition fee waiver for the duration of enrollment, along with a pro-rata annual research grant. While students are responsible for covering living expenses and other incidentals during their stay in Australia, opportunities for financial support through stipends or fellowships may be available.

Research Opportunities: Participants will engage in high-quality research at both IARI and WSU, contributing to the development of impactful publications, patents, products, or protocols. Research proposals must align with the student's program at IARI and available opportunities at WSU, particularly at the Hawkesbury Institute of Environment (HIE).
Selection Process
Student selection for the program is competitive and based on the quality of EoIs and research proposals. Academic merit will be considered for shortlisting, and proposals must align with the research interests of both institutions.
The selection process consists of multiple stages, including proposal review, development of a detailed work program, and confirmation of candidature from WSU. Additionally, students must demonstrate certified proficiency in English by Stage 3 of the process.
How to Apply
Interested students enrolled in the specified academic sessions are encouraged to submit their EoIs along with research proposals to the Graduate School at IARI within 30 days of the notification. It's imperative that applicants review the profile of WSU, especially the Hawkesbury Institute of Environment, before finalizing their research proposals.
