IMD Predicts Cyclonic Circulation over North Andaman Sea, Issues Heavy Rainfall Alert for Next 5 Days

The south of Peninsular India is likely to witness significant rainfall over the next 4-5 days, according to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD).

The meteorological department said that starting on Tuesday, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over the North Andaman Sea.

The weather forecast also said that Tamil Nadu, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, South Interior Karnataka, and Kerala received heavy rainfall during the weekend.

State-wise Weather Predictions

  • It's HIGHLY possible that between October 17 and October 20 there will be moderate to heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe.

  • The weather will be similar over South Interior Karnataka on October 17 and 18, over Coastal and North Interior Karnataka on 17th, and over Lakshadweep during 18-20 October.

  • North Interior Karnataka will get rainfall on October 17, and over Lakshadweep from October 18 to 20.

  • On October 20, extremely heavy showers are expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe.

  • During the period of October 17–20, moderate to heavy rainfall is quite expected over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

  • On October 17, moderate to heavy rainfall is anticipated to fall over Madhya Maharashtra, the Konkan, and Goa.

  • The majority of Northwest and Central India will remain dry.

Withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon

According to the IMD, over the next two days, conditions are highly expected to improve and allow for a further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some further areas of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, inland Maharashtra, and Jharkhand, some interior Odisha, and the entirety of West Bengal.
