IMD Predicts Rainfall in 11 States, UTs for Next 5 Days; Snowfall in Isolated Areas Likely Today

Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted wet spells over 11 states and Union Territories over 5 days. As per the IMD briefing, wet spell is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 3 days.

Weather News: The Indian Meteorological Department has predicted wet spells throughout 11 states and Union Territories over the next five days in its most recent weather forecast. According to the IMD briefing, a wet spell is likely over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next three days, with isolated heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.

While two successive feeble Western Disturbances are likely to bring isolated rainfall over the Western Himalayan region from February 16 to 20. 

Over next 5 days, northeasterly winds over coastal Tamil Nadu are quite likely to bring mild to moderate rainfall to south Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Throughout the next two days, scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected over the Lakshadweep Islands. 

IMD predicts isolated light rain/ snowfall across Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad for the next 5 days in the north. Isolated light rainfall/snowfall is also expected across Himachal Pradesh from February 18 to 20, as well as in Uttarakhand on February 20. 

Furthermore, isolated light rainfall is expected across Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim over the next 5 days, as well as over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Jharkhand on February 20. On 18th and 19th of February, Madhya Pradesh is expected to receive isolated rainfall and over Chhattisgarh on February 19 and 20. 

Andaman and Nicobar Islands are very likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours, followed by fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning during the next three days. The weather will recede from thereafter. 

Snowfall in isolated area Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan region for next 5 days 

Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are expected to get isolated rainfall over the next five days, while the same conditions are expected across Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand on February 20. In addition, isolated light rain is expected over Madhya Pradesh on February 18 and 19, and over Chhattisgarh on February 19 and 20. The IMD forecasts a steady rise in minimum temperatures of 3-4 degrees Celsius over parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and east India during the next five days whereas no change is likely over the rest of the country. 

Current weather observations reveal that minimum temperatures are 3-5 degrees Celsius at isolated places over Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya and coastal Andhra Pradesh. Besides, the minimum temperatures over Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are 1.5 to 3 degrees Celsius below normal.
