IMD Updates: Rain & Dense Fog Expected in These States Over Next 48 Hours

IMD predicted cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in some parts of Punjab during December 30 to January 3, north Rajasthan during December 31 to January 3, and Haryana and Chandigarh during December 31 to January 2.

Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted rainy weather in parts of east and northeast India over the next 48 hours, followed by dry weather. According to the weather agency's most recent forecast, cold wave conditions will exist in isolated pockets over northwest India for the next 4-5 days.

According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation lies over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its surroundings at lower tropospheric levels, with a trough aloft in middle tropospheric levels, and a cyclonic circulation lies over east Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar, with a trough running from the cyclonic circulation to Telangana at lower tropospheric levels.

Rain Expected In These States:

Under its influence, the agency predicts light isolated rainfall across Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha over the next 24 hours, followed by dry weather throughout northwest and central India during the next five days.

Light to moderate, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, along with isolated thunderstorms, lightning and hailstorms, is also certainly likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, and Sikkim during the next 24 hours, followed by dry weather.

"Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning, and hailstorm also likely over eastern parts on December 30, and dry weather over the region thereafter," the IMD stated.

A new intense Western Disturbance is also expected to strike the Western Himalayan Region from January 4 to 7, 2022, and over plains of northwest India from January 5 to 7, 2022.

"Light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, north Rajasthan, and west Uttar Pradesh from January 5 to 7 and light isolated rainfall is also expected over Madhya Pradesh, south Rajasthan, and Gujarat on January 6 and 7" the agency stated.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures will fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius over most parts of northwest and central India during the next 48 hours, with no significant change beyond that.

IMD forecasted cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in areas of Punjab from December 30 to January 3, north Rajasthan from December 31 to January 3, and Haryana and Chandigarh from December 31 to January 2.

Also, intense fog in isolated pockets is expected across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in night/morning hours for the next two days, and over east India over the next three days.
