Indian Army Day 2022 honors the sacrifices of soldiers who were martyred while safeguarding the country and its residents. Not only that, but the day commemorates Field Marshal Kodandera M. Cariappa's takeover as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed forces from General Francis Bucher, the final British Commander-in-Chief of India, in 1949.

Each year on January 15, India celebrates Indian Army Day. This year marks the 74th year of Indian Army Day. Followed by Indian Army day, India celebrates Republic Day on the 26th of January.

Significance of Indian Army Day

Every Army Command Headquarters celebrates the day. Preparations are ongoing, however, because of the continuing global pandemic, the day will be celebrated under strict regulations. Soldiers of the Indian Army are honored on this day for their selfless service to the country and for setting the best example of brotherhood. The salute is sent to all the brave soldiers who have sacrificed all to safeguard the country and preserve the nation's integrity.

Why Indian Army Day is celebrated?

After nearly 200 years of British rule, India obtained independence on August 15, 1947. During India's independence, the nation was witnessing communal riots, and refugees were arriving from Pakistan, as well as some citizens going to Pakistan.

Many administrative issues arose as a result of this sort of anarchic atmosphere when the army was called in to handle the situation so that peace could be maintained during partition.

At the time of Indian independence, British General Sir Francis Butcher commanded the Indian army. As a result, on 15 January 1949, Field Marshal K. M. Cariappa was also the first Indian Army Chief of Independent India.

Because this was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the Indian Army, it was decided to commemorate this glorious day every year in India as Army Day, and this practice has been carried on ever since.

Let us celebrate Indian Army Day by saluting all the army men for their bravery, dedication, and patriotism. Happy Indian Army Day!
